Burt Bacharach’s iconic songbook comes alive in MaestroClass: What’s it all about? this May

This May, audiences are invited to step into a world of unforgettable melodies as the music of legendary songwriter Burt Bacharach takes center stage in the third chapter of the MaestroClass Concert Series: What’s It All About? — Celebrating the Music of Burt Bacharach, happening May 15 to 17, 2026, at the Proscenium Theater in Rockwell Center Makati. Through the interpretation and musical direction of National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab, Bacharach’s timeless songs are reimagined in an intimate, masterclass-style concert experience that brings new light to some of the most enduring melodies ever written.

From the Carpenters’ Billboard Hot 100 #1 smash “(They Long to Be) Close to You” to Jackie DeShannon’s 1965 top-ten anthem “What the World Needs Now Is Love,” as well as “Alfie,” the title track of the 1966 film that became one of Dionne Warwick’s signature recordings, Burt Bacharach’s music is essentially the blueprint for ’60s and ’70s hit radio.

While his songs might give off a breezy, easy-listening vibe, they are actually notorious among musicians for their sneaky complexity as they take tricky, unpredictable melodies and shifting beats, and smoothing them out into catchy pop hits that anyone can sing along to.

Whether it’s the definitive Dionne Warwick and Aretha Franklin versions of “I Say a Little Prayer,” the heavily sampled 1964 classic “Walk On By,” or the Oscar-winning, chart-topping giant “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head”, Bacharach’s catalog is basically a cheat sheet for 20th-century pop culture. They aren’t just sentimental ballads; they are certified hit records that have been covered, remixed, and featured in countless movies since they first hit the vinyl.

Presented by Rockwell, What’s It All About? brings these timeless songs into sharper focus through Cayabyab’s signature “masterclass-style” format. More than a performance, the concert becomes an experience of discovery, inviting audiences to listen more closely as the Maestro unpacks the structure, storytelling, and musical brilliance behind each piece.

For this special three-night engagement, Cayabyab is joined by a powerhouse lineup of Filipino vocalists: Jett Pangan, Bituin Escalante, Gigi De Lana, and Sofronio Vasquez, alongside the dynamic vocal group Baihana, with stage direction by Rowell Santiago. Each artist brings their own voice and interpretation to Bacharach’s music.

Following two sold-out chapters—from Cayabyab’s own music to the timeless works of OPM greats—MaestroClass continues to evolve, this time expanding its lens to celebrate a global icon whose songs have shaped the sound of generations.

More than a concert, What’s It All About? is a chance to rediscover the music we’ve long carried with us—now heard in a way that feels both intimate and entirely new.

Tickets for What’s It All About? — Celebrating the Music of Burt Bacharach are available via TicketWorld (online and outlets) and at the Power Plant Mall Cinema.
