Commuting on Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) has become more convenient as passengers can now use eligible LANDBANK cards for contactless fare payments, supporting the government’s efforts to modernize public transportation through cashless transactions.
Following the rollout of the same system on MRT-3, commuters may now tap their contactless LANDBANK Visa Debit, Credit, or Mastercard Prepaid cards equipped with PayWave or PayPass at designated LRT-2 turnstiles upon entry and exit. Eligible cards issued by Overseas Filipino Bank (OFBank), a wholly owned subsidiary of LANDBANK, are also accepted.

The initiative is part of the Automated Fare Collection System (AFCS) Proof of Concept under the Philippine Automated Fare Collection System (PAFCS), led by the Department of Transportation in partnership with Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC), with LANDBANK serving as the settlement bank for secure card-based payments.
The system was formally launched on July 13 at Legarda Station during a ceremonial demonstration attended by officials from the Department of Finance, Department of Information and Communications Technology, Department of Transportation, Light Rail Transit Authority, LANDBANK, RCBC, Visa Philippines, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Social Security System, GCash and other partners.
“Expanding the use of LANDBANK cards for transit payments supports the National Government’s push to modernize public transport and make everyday commuting more efficient,” said LANDBANK President and CEO Lynette V. Ortiz. “Providing commuters with a fast, convenient, and cashless way to pay at LRT-2 helps reduce queues, improves mobility, and brings digital financial services closer to the daily lives of Filipinos.”
The expansion allows commuters to use globally accepted EMV-enabled cards across major rail systems, helping reduce reliance on cash while supporting the country’s broader digital transformation and financial inclusion efforts.
