Ayala Land’s Nuvali achieves BERDE 5-Star sustainability certifications

Ayala Land’s Nuvali estate has reached a key sustainability benchmark after its Lakeside and East Bloc districts received BERDE 5-Stars Certification under BERDE Districts Version 1.0.0 for Stage 1 and Stage 2 from the Philippine Green Building Council (PHILGBC).

The recognition marks the first time commercial districts within Nuvali have been awarded the highest BERDE rating, while also establishing the estate as the first commercial business district in the country to be certified under BERDE Districts.

It reinforces Nuvali’s standing as a pioneering model for master-planned, environmentally responsive urban development in CALABARZON.

Building a long-term eco-city in the South

As Ayala Land’s flagship eco-city and its largest estate in the region, Nuvali continues to expand its long-term vision of integrating sustainability with everyday urban functions.

Positioned as the “Rising South,” the estate is designed as a multi-layered growth center where business activity, mobility systems, retail environments, and lifestyle spaces operate within a single planned framework.

The BERDE certification adds further weight to Nuvali’s ongoing development direction, particularly as it scales up its mixed-use districts and public environments.

District design shaped by sustainability standards

Developed by the Philippine Green Building Council (PHILGBC), BERDE—short for Building for Ecologically Responsive Design Excellence—serves as the country’s leading green building rating system. It evaluates developments based on environmental performance that goes beyond existing laws and mandatory standards.

“By achieving BERDE certifications in Nuvali, Lakeside Evozone, and East Bloc project demonstrated its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship,” said Rowena Ramos, Vice Chair, Board of Trustees of PHILGBC.

From Ayala Land’s side, the certification reflects a deliberate approach to long-term value creation across its estates.

“Receiving the BERDE 5-Stars Certification under BERDE Districts for both Lakeside and East Bloc reflects our commitment to building sustainable and future-ready communities that create long-term value for residents, businesses, and stakeholders,” said Gilbert Ramos, Senior Project Development Manager of Ayala Land Estates Inc.

Lakeside and East Bloc’s evolving roles within the estate

Within the 200-hectare Metro Nuvali CBD, the Lakeside District continues to function as a leisure and lifestyle anchor. It is defined by open spaces, recreational zones, retail components, and its lakeside environment, which remains a central feature of the district’s identity.

A redevelopment program is currently underway, including a planned connection to Ayala Malls Nuvali. The project is intended to strengthen the integration of retail and leisure experiences within the estate’s broader commercial ecosystem and is targeted for completion by the fourth quarter of the year.

East Bloc, meanwhile, is steadily taking shape as a business and commercial district designed to support enterprise activity, mobility, and modern urban living in the South.

Strengthening Nuvali’s civic and community fabric

Beyond its commercial and environmental developments, Nuvali continues to expand its civic infrastructure.

Recent milestones include the signing of the Nuvali Parish Church with the Archdiocese of San Pablo, as well as a deed of donation with the City Government of Santa Rosa for an upcoming local government satellite office. These developments further reinforce the estate’s evolving role as both a regional CBD and a community hub in CALABARZON.

Integrated planning for future-ready communities

Both Lakeside and East Bloc were recognized for adopting environmentally responsive planning strategies, including walkability, extensive green open spaces, sustainable land use, mobility connectivity, water management systems, and resilient infrastructure design.

These elements align with Ayala Land Estates’ broader approach to large-scale development, which seeks to balance economic activity, environmental responsibility, and quality of life.

As Nuvali continues to expand, its direction remains anchored on creating communities that evolve with urban needs while preserving the natural systems that define the estate’s identity.
